Her mother, Lisa Roussos, who was also in attendance for the Ariana Grande concert, was badly injured herself.

He said: 'The news about Lisa being out of danger is the biggest in this since the start. She was in a critical condition at first, but she came off life support on Saturday and was up and talking on Sunday.

'She's aware of the situation with Saffie. She's still in hospital, but she's moving her legs, which is fantastic. Lisa's pulling through and it's really important people know that.

'Ashlee is remarkably well. She went to a different hospital to her mum with wounds, but it looks like she might be out as early as Wednesday.'

He added that Saffie's dad, Andrew, 'has been so strong' – and did not want to grieve 'until he knew his wife was going to be okay'.

He said: 'News of Saffie's death in this appalling attack has come as a tremendous shock to us all. I would like to send our deepest condolences to her friends and of course her family.

'Saffie was simply a beautiful little girl in every aspect of the word. She was loved by everyone, and her warmth and kindness will be remembered fondly.

'Saffie was quiet and unassuming with a creative flair. Saffie comes from a close, loving family and we can only imagine what they are going through.

'It is hard for adults, let alone children, to grasp the unfairness and utter randomness of this terrible act.'
