About a year ago, I drew your attention to the danger that social media is posing to print journalism and wondered how long established newspapers like the Guardian would last. The Guardian is now facing serious problems and is no longer able to continue without assistance from us the loyal readers. But how long is this sustainable? A lot of the other UK newspapers like the Daily Mail have gone online, and bizarrely they are now posting single stories, not a whole newspaper. I think you seriously underestimated the effect social media would have on print journalism. Most readers now seem to go for single stories, which they surf around for, rather than read a whole newspaper. But it will be sad to see the end of print journalism. I have not missed a single day for the last 35 years without reading a newspaper. Newspapers have been like fresh air to me.
