Museveni: I Am The One Who Owns Uganda's Money

Uganda's three-decade president Yoweri Museveni has said he is the owner of the country's resources, a statement once said by dictator Idi Amin Dada.

Interestingly, Museveni made the statement while campaigning for Amin's grandson in Kiryandongo district.

Taban Amin, son to Shaban Amin (Idi Amin's son) is standing in a by-election in Kibanda North Constituency under Museveni's National Resistance Movement (NRM) party ticket.

Museveni castigated Taban's opponent Sam Otada Owor Amooti for fighting him (the president).

But Museveni said he had forgiven Otada.

A day after Museveni's act of 'forgiveness', Otada announced he had pulled out of the race, leaving Amin's grandson unopposed.

But before Museveni could forgive Otada, he told voters that service delivery was easier when he dealt with NRM MPs than opposition legislators.

"I want you to vote for someone who will work with me on government projects. When you elect NRM candidates, it will also be possible for him to continue lobbying whatever services people need in the whole country… because when you vote for an NRM flag-bearer, work becomes easy," Museveni said at a campaign rally on Tuesday.

He then criticised Otada for abandoning him, the man with the resources.

"When this man [Otada] was talking ill against me, calling me a fool, I never responded," Museveni narrated.

"Yet I am the one who owns the bread, the money [in Uganda]…"

This is the same statement Amin once told a journalist from the West.

"The people love me so much. I am very popular… I am the one who has the money," Amin todl the white reporter when asked about his popularity.
