A family trip to the safari park turned incredibly awkward for one family after two baboons started mating on the car bonnet.

The amusing footage shows the pair getting quite amorous, while the family inside the car can be heard screaming with laughter.

The video starts innocently enough, with one of the monkeys relaxing in front of the windscreen as two parents and their children watch on from inside the car.

The incident was played out in front of a family in the car

The video starts innocently enough, with one of the monkeys relaxing in front of the windscreen as two parents and their children watch on from inside the car

However things suddenly turn as another baboon appears on the bonnet, at which point the duo immediately begin mating.

As the parents howl with laughter, one of the children can be heard shouting: 'Naughty monkey!'

Afterwards, the female monkey scarpers off, while the male proceeds to lie down on the bonnet as the family drives off. 

The hilarious footage was filmed inside the monkey enclosure of Knowsley Safari Park in Merseyside.

Posting the video online, the filmer wrote: 'Kids day out to Knowsley safari park got a bit awkward'.
