{UAH} FAMILY; THE FUNCTIONAL UNIT OF THE SOCIETY

We all hope for world peace one day. It could be today, tomorrow, or some time in years to come. If ever that happens, it will inevitably be a gradual process, and everyone will have very important roles to play in order to actualize this. We all must help each other to achieve something as great as world peace, and I believe that the best place to start from is the family.
The family is the smallest functional unit of the society and just like our individual bodies, every action starts from the cell. To move our arm, our muscles must contract and for the muscles to contract, every muscle cell must contract. If some cells do not contract, the movement will not be efficient. It works the same way for the society. Families are the cells that make up the society. I have seen children from abusive families and their behaviors are totally different from those from non-abusive families. What if children saw only affection and oneness in their parents? What if they saw their parents handle their misunderstandings (because there surely will be) with maturity and loving communication? Don't you think they will act in the same way towards the people they meet in their lives?
I firmly believe in "garbage in, garbage out", that people are most likely to raise their children the same way they were raised. When a boy grows up in a family where his dad beats up his mum, it won't be surprising if he grows up to beat women, and even men too. It is said that if the only tool you have is a hammer, you will treat everything around you as if they were nails. However, a boy that grows up watching his dad respect and love his mum, will most probably evolve into a loving father and husband.
Until we start from the smallest unit of the society, world peace will be an illusion. With sincerity of purpose from every family all over the world, this feat may be achieved. If children are taught that no one is better based on their skin color, how fat their parents' bank accounts are, the class they belong to, or the part of the world they come from, they will grow up to see everyone as equal, and the issue of racism, which is the greatest threat to world peace can be tackled.
I see a lot of bullies from school and I believe some are trying to make up for the affection and love they never received from their parents. True, a child from a good family may still turn out bad because the family is not the only social interaction a growing child has. A child can pick up bad traits from his/her peers; however, this can be corrected if the family is in good shape. I believe that tribalism, racism, terrorism, and war can all be avoided, to a certain degree, if the primary unit of the society – the family – is non-dysfunctional.
