CAMPAIGN: Mayiga (inset L) prioritises Masiro reconstruction, inset R is when on fire

When we reported that newly appointed Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga puts a financially empowered kingdom ahead of Federo, we were spot on. The Katikkiro himself has proved us right.

As we hinted that Katikkiro will mobilize money to reconstruct Masiro, in order to tap into cash from tourists to develop the kingdom, the ICT savvy Mayiga has launched a Face Book campaign drive, urging Buganda, Ugandans and well-wishers to contribute towards the reconstruction of Kasubi tombs.

"Your 5000Shs, 10,000Shs, 20,000Shs or more can help you Kingdom on the restoration of the Kasubi Royal Tombs. Account Open at Centenary Bank, Mapeera Branch. Ac Name: Gwanika Lya Buganda Kasubi Royal Tombs, A/C No 2210600019 or Send Mobile Money 0774659997," one of the several inboxes 'Owekitiibwa' has posted reads.

Kasubi tombs were torched on the night of March 16th 2010, destroying a lot of cultural regalia and almost all traditional huts housing the tombs of fallen Buganda kings. Government set up a Commission of Inquiry, which sat and completed its work, but the report has since remained under wraps, at one time prompting former Buganda Minister MP Sseggona Kalyamaggwa to threaten to release what he called his version of the report.

Buganda has since engaged Mugerwa Mugalaasi's Omega Construction, to rebuild the tombs. Many people, government and countries including Japan with a Shs2Bn donation, have since contributed money towards the cause.

"We at Investigator wish to join the campaign by urging all Baganda, Ugandans and well-wishers to answer positively to 'Owekitiibwa' Katikkiro  Mayiga's call since tourism brings in a lot of money and Kasubi is one of the biggest tourists attraction site," Stanley Ndawula, The Investigator Editorial Director said when declaring the e-paper support towards the same.

Meanwhile, Mengo impeccable sources have reliably intimated that Premier Mayiga will officially enter office on May 29th 2013 when, the Kabaka is slated to pass Ddamula (Instruments of Power) over to him.
