[UAH] Gen. Kayihura: Fake detectors with UPF?
Gen. Kayihura,
This is something that was in place perhaps before you took office but is worth taking action on because it puts life of Ugandans at risk.
All those who frequently traveled to and through Entebbe Airport in recent years must have seen a certain device used by the anti-terrorism officers of Uganda police, to screen vehicles entering the airport for possible weapons and bombs.
The device looked like a car radio antenna and supposedly detected bombs etc.
It has now turned out that the device is fake and could not detect any weapons but was in fact designed to locate lost golf balls at a golf course!
The device was marketed by a former British police officer and fraudster (56-year-old James McCormick). According to press reports, Kenya bought 90 million Kenya shillings worth of the device, which has been sold in dozens of countries including Iraq, Egypt and Uganda.
A British judge has consequently sentenced James McCormick to 10 years in jail for defrauding governments and security forces around the world with a device which is sold in openly in shops in the USA at 50 $ but bought at millions of shillings here in Africa and elsewhere.
General, this is to alert you that if our police is still using this fake ''bomb detectors'' they had better be decommissioned as they have been proved to be completely useless, except for members of Uganda Golf Club in Kitante.
Thanks
Billie
