[UAH] NEW UNAA LEADERSHIP

The last few days should have validated most of the issues I raised when I announced my candidacy:
1. I said that UNAA campaigns are normally nasty and we need a unifier: We have witnessed the beginning of attacks and counter attacks by the two "experienced" camps. One experienced candidate has been in UNAA leadership for a full decade (as Secretary, VP and finally President). If the nasty emails going around are correct, the other candidate is a proxy for a former President (has UNAA become Russia where Putin chose a proxy so that Putin could rule behind the scene?). A few emails even suggested that this fight has been simmering for years!! As I mentioned, we should not settle for this kind of leadership. I am well positioned to unify UNAA. I have never been part of any fights and I have never belonged to any UNAA camps. I have always been a simple member.
2. I mentioned that longevity in UNAA leadership does not mean that a person has good judgment: Mr Senoga has been in UNAA leadership for a decade and Mr Kwesiga wrote that he has been in leadership for 2 terms (ok, I only know about this one term that he has served on the UNAA Council)...and a member of the Board of Trustees is said to have been grooming Mr. Kwesiga for 4 years. A decade and 4 years, respectively, are indeed a long time.
But we need a leader with good judgment. The voters can judge how the three candidates dealt for the 30,000 loss.
(a). The "secret" emails that have been leaked in the past few days show that Francis Sennoga and Brian Kwesiga lack good judgment. Mr. Sennoga was aware that UNAA would incur a loss if we used the Marriott but he insisted on using it.
(b). Mr Kwesiga, to his credit, voted against the recommendation but then he sat back and did nothing further.  Two years later, he is revealing this fact...when the members can't help prevent the loss!  We have a saying that "olwatta omwami nalumanya...nti lwaki tewayogera?"...i.e when the Chief dies and you come up to say that you knew the disease that killed him, folks will ask why you didn't speak up in time!

(c). I have shown good judgment on this matter: Late last year, I heard about the 30,000 loss and I immediately contacted a representative on the Council. She refused to answer my questions. Then she contacted other Council members and complained that UNAA secrets had been revealed to me! I tried to get answers from the Executive but I was told that there was no loss. Then I tried the Board of Trustees (BOT)...again I did not get any answers. Surprisingly, all three bodies deemed it fit to discuss, among themselves, the fact that I knew about the debt...instead of discussing the causes of the debt and how they'd pay it off! One BOT and a Council member even called my brothers (who have NO interest in UNAA stuff) and complained that I was revealing secret UNAA matters (yes, it is that same BOT that many people have suggested should investigate the 30k loss!).

3. I mentioned that we need transparency: minutes of meetings of the BOT, Council and Executive should be posted on the UNAA website. UNAA meetings need to be open. If we can watch Congressional debates on CSPAN, why can't we see what is going on in our UNAA? UNAA financial books should be posted every 3 months. UNAA's constitution requires the Executive to reveal the financial reports by Dec but we are getting to June and the 2012 books have not yet been revealed! If UNAA members had been informed about these "secrets" two years ago, I am sure many of us would have objected to the choice that caused the loss.
thanks
