[UAH] Preconditions for a revolution

Historian Crane Brinton presented preconditions for a revolution. As you go through the list below try to see how many apply to Uganda which is now registered as a failed state on the brink of implosion.

1.     Discontent that affects nearly all social classes;

2.     Widespread feelings of entrapment and despair;

3.      Unfulfilled expectations;

4.     A unified solidarity in opposition to a tiny power elite;

5.     A refusal by scholars and thinkers to continue to defend the actions of the ruling class;

6.     An inability of government to respond to the basic needs of citizens;

7.     A steady loss of will within the power elite itself together with defections from the inner circle – a crippling isolation that leaves the power elite without any allies or outside support;

8.     A financial crisis.

V. I. Lenin stated "It is impossible to predict the time and progress of revolution. It is governed by its own more or less mysterious laws. But when it comes, it moves irresistibly"(Chris Hedges and Joe Sacco 2012).
