In Summary
Tempers rose when Ms Karen Kayonga transferred her cattle from Kiruhura District to the contested land but residents threatened to kill the animals if her herdsmen forced their way on the land.
Riot police have been deployed in Ntuusi Sub-county in Sembabule District to prevent a looming bloody land dispute between residents and a businesswoman could turn violent.
Tempers rose when Ms Karen Kayonga transferred her cattle from Kiruhura District to the contested land but residents threatened to kill the animals if her herdsmen settled on the land.
The residents accuse Ms Kayonga of attempting to take over about four-and-half square miles of land, claiming that she acquired it from the Uganda Investment Authority in 2007.
Ms Kayonga, the director of Abeki Farm Enterprises, blames the dispute on local politicians, whom she says have hidden interest in the land.
The police have advised Ms Kayonga to temporarily keep her cattle at Bigaaga Forest Reserve.
