[UAH] Shut down Coast sex clubs, leaders demand - Politics - nation.co.ke
Muslim religious leaders and human rights organisations have demanded that the government closes down all brothels and illegal clubs which promote sex tourism in the Coast.
They claimed that the tourist police department has failed Kenyans and should be disbanded.
The Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya and Muslims for Human Rights said the brothels and night clubs promote evil and should be closed as a matter of urgency.
The Imams council's secretary-general Sheikh Mohammed Khalifa urged police Inspector-General David Kimaiyo and head of intelligence at the Coast, Mr Ambrose Munyasia, to send special investigators in the case of 11 girls who were arrested at a brothel in Nyali for allegedly engaging in prostitution and having sex with a dog.
They spoke as Deputy President William Ruto condemned the incident.
Speaking at Kiboibei village in Ainamoi constituency, Kericho County where he was attending a funeral of his uncle, Joel Mbega Kitur, Mr Ruto directed the Ministry of Internal Security to crack down on foreigners who come to the country posing as tourists only to engage in criminal activities.
"I want the Criminal Investigation Department to look into such matters to ensure that the country only hosts genuine tourists and not criminals who come to this country pretending to be either tourists or sportsmen and women," said Mr Ruto.
The Deputy President also wants the police to investigate and crush prostitution rings. He warned that unless the government woke up to its duties, such illegal activities would become the order of the day.
Promote prostitution.
In Mombasa, Sheikh Khalifa maintained that there are special clubs in Kilifi and Mombasa counties which promote homosexuality, prostitution and other anti-social acts.
Sheikh Khalifa alleged that there was a conspiracy to hide the truth from Kenyans.
"We want special police to be deployed in this province and investigate this matter. We want the suspects to be punished according to the laws of this country" he said.
He added that some senior officers are aware of clubs in Mombasa and Kilifi County that promote homosexuality and other beastly acts on Kenyan women and boys but fail to take action.
The sheikh condemned gay sex and blamed ministers in the previous government for failing Kenyans by not taking a specific position against homosexuality.
"We condemn the beastly act where it is alleged 11 of our girls were arrested for involvement in sex films with dogs. We want the police to complete their investigations without being tempted with money" he said.
He warned tourists against luring the youth into in pornography. He also urged women to engage in honest work if they wanted riches.
"If you want a luxurious life you cannot have it by having sex with a dog. It is the most shameful act in Kenya's history. If that is tourism, then we do not want tourism in our country."
Muhuri's Rapid Response Officer, Mr Francis Ouma condemned the act and accused the police of laxity.
"It is beyond reasonable doubt that the tourism police department has failed Kenyans. This is corruption of the highest order. How did the tourist enter Kenya? Where is security?" he asked.
