[UAH] State to cancel Mining licenses from Speculative investors
Government says it is withdrawing prospecting and mining rights licenses issued to speculative investors that are barely productive. This development comes after a World Bank funded air survey worth over $100m dollars 5 years ago, revealed a host of precious minerals ranging from Gold, platinum, Iron ore, phosphates among others scattered underneath the ground; across Uganda.
This caused a mad rush for prospecting rights from both local and foreign investors with some who acquired licenses over the past 4 years, selling them off.
Moses Ali, the Deputy Prime Minister who opened the Uganda Mining and Energy Conference here in Kampala, disclosed that the reforms on rights are being catered for under a new sector policy.
Let assume this time round there will be no cases of corruption.
