[UAH] A Bright Day for UNAA

Ndugu Ocen:

I can authoritatively state that everyone on the Local Dallas Committee in charge Sponsorship and Speakers was aware, just like the UNAA Executive and BOT was.

We are in the midst of a political campaign, so for political expediency, you will see some folks feigning ignorance.

The opinions expressed are strictly those of the author and do not express the views of the Local Organizing Structure.

We look forward to seeing you all in Dallas, Texas over the Labor Day weekend.

Ndugu Kamugisha;

Whether Mr Karuhanga has anything to offer as a speaker can be viewed subjectively. Do not kid yourself that the Executive and and BOT were blindsided by this decision. They were not because they were duly informed.

Now by saying some on the local Dallas committee were not informed means some were surely informed. There seems to be some unresolved issues within your local chapter which are now  spilling over into national.

You have still not explained away your objection to  Winnie  Byanyima?

Ndugu Nekyon: If am not mistaken, I have only seen Elly Karuhanga, only once in UNAA conventions, and that was in Denver. Like any corporate sponser who gjves more than I guess $2,000 one gets an opportunity to talk about their products, company, organization or whatever the case may be. I remember Kaluhanga, sharing the stage with the Ug. Red Cross team among others. Karuhanga, spent noy more than thirty minutes talking about Tullow. He did not have much to offer or impress as the setting of his presentation did not not appeal to many during that lunch hour that normally takes place during the opening ceremonies. No one could question his sponsership then for the mere fact that he was one among the key sponsers. This around, Karuhanga, was met in Kampala. A deal was struck behind the back of some Dallas LOC, the UNAA Exec and you guessed it right. The BOT was informed afer the fact! Moses, if you are contended with such backdoor deals in the UNAA you
and I have been fighting for. Am not. Am ready to be be blacklisted. I'd rather be listed as such than be a traitor, a channel of intrigue and a fointain of lies, a messenger of conflicts and deception. Kamugisha

>Ndugu Kamugisha's : I have no idea what you are  talking about in regards to Ndugu Mulubya and UNAA's debt. The last time I checked UNAA sponsors included and were not limited to Western Union, Moneygram and  to date Pfizer has been our biggest single donor. Has that tied UNAA to the USA government? I was part of the Executive that decided in order to alleviate UNAA's convention costs it had to reach out to government and business entities in Uganda for sponsorship.  Over the years UNAA has received funds from the above two without sacrificing its integrity. I believe last year Elly Karuhanga, who is a regular attendee of conventions, donated on behalf of Tullow. Why was is not an issue for you last year? I will always appreciate your campaign for me and will always be indebted. During my time in office you never saw either me or Kimbugwe put UNAA in a position that was injurious to its integrity. We also invited high profile guests such as the
current two so it should be a non issue. Oxen Sent from my BlackBerry 10 smartphone. How i wish you knew how, why and who were behind the choice of the Key Note Speakers! Secondly, How i wish you knew what the most shocking of all deceits that has been told by some UNAA officials of late! Am on the record for defending government interaction with UNAA. Indeed, i opposed the taking of UNAA to Uganda
in 2000, but i was in full support and proud of what that convention yielded. Dual
>citizenship. What i abhor is the hypocrisy, lies, denial and defending the indefensible. When shall we ever stand up and get counted on issues of principal? The debt you were singing about the other day, is now about to cost UNAA it's integrity, simply because, Karuhanga, will soon come with a a brief case of money to save UNAA in the name of a "Sponsor!" Is that the UNAA you fought so hard with Kimbugwe, during your time as VP to build? Is that what i stood for as your Chief campaigner?  Are you telling me that you are so bent on compromising the image and future of UNAA at the expense of some hand outs in
>the form of "sponsorship?"  Lastly, please, ask our friend Abas Muluubya, to remind you on what was suggested in relation to the debt payment, in a meeting which i believe you can remember. I guarantee, it was not to be paid through Karuhanga's brief case.        Rev. Joseph W. A great number of ideas and non ideas are thrown about as to where our esteemed organization should steer towards. This year is no
different especially in the midst of a new constitution which is still in it's practical infancy.  The original Charter of UNAA; calls for the organization to maintain an Apolitical stance in regards to local Ugandan politics. And to its credit the UNAA has so
>far been able to navigate most of the political Minefields, by being impartial to any political organization. This has been done in spite of pressure by some member calls for it to do so. UNAA stands in the politically unique position of whereby most of its members want it out of politics, while at the same time criticizing it for not having political positions. It should be recognized that the qualifier for membership into the organization, irrespective of tribe, religion, social standing or political affiliation is that one
>has to be a Ugandan.  Which basically means that UNAA is made up of people who do not have parties, or are members of FDC, NRM, KY, DP,CP or UPC. In other words UNAA is all embracing with only one agenda. Uganda! I have served UNAA in a number of capacities; from the local level up to to the national level as it's two time Vice President. At all times it was known that I was a card carrying member of UPC who had UNAA at heart. At no time was my ethnic and political origin an issue during my tenure.  That is the kind of organization I will always be proud of being a part of inspite of its many challenges. During my tenure one of our great achievements was successfully lobbying the Ugandan government passing the law make it legal to hold Dual Citizenship. This required Board members to directly engage the President of the Republic in this endeavor.  We were roundly criticized for doing so because this was the period when Multiparty politics was being
introduced in Uganda.  What many people do not realize is that some of the authors for that proposal are among staunchest members of the opposition. We have all benefited irrespective of our political leanings from this new law. It's with all this that I view Ndugu Kamugisha's missive with sadness in that he of all people knows UNAA's apolitical stance. If anything, UNAA has shown that it has the
>institutional wherewithal to invite both sides of the political divide without worrying about being accused of favoritism.  Criticism is the price for greatness.
