The need for peace talks in the Philippines.
The government abandoned the talks, now they are suffering the
consequences because the New Peoples Army has heightened its military
activity, which goes on every single day, unceasingly and
relentlessly. And the government replies by straffing and bombing the
civilian population.
Peace talks are the only way forward, but in the last round in Oslo,
the Philippines government took a very instransigient postion that the
National Democratic Front would not accept.
The Philippines government, under pressure from feudal land-lords and
the USA government, would not agree to the NDF offer of land-reform.
The Philippines agricultural land is controlled by less than 30
feudal land-lord families who keep the peasants as serfs and subject
them to rural servitude. The Communist Party will not accept this
status quo.
The NPA would be willing to disarm if 90% of the land is taken away
from feudal landlords and legally given to the peasants. The NPA will
not budge on this issue, and it would be pointless for them to have
waged a war since 1940 to concede on this issue.
President Aquino, as a peace-building measure, gave up his own family
feudal land called Hacienda Luisita and gave it to the peasants, but
he has demanded very huge compensation from the government amounting
to almost $250 million and even more, while the thousands of peasants
who have died under the hands of a brutal army and police force have
not recieved any compensation.
More importantly, President Aquino is just one feudal landlord who has
been forced to hand-over land to the peasants, and I have been
involved in so many law suits against his family. But what about the
other feudal landlords, including Aquino's own uncle and family
(Eduardo Cojuangco)who owns almost a third of the island of Cebu?
Or the Arroyo family who own almost all of Pampanga province in Luzon
and large tracts of land in Iligan in Mindanao.
And these families have been exchanging power between themselves for
the last 100 years.
In Colombia, as a peace-making gesture, the government has agreed to
give 73% of land illegally grabbed from the peasants back to them in
their negotiations with the FARC. Arthur will disagree with me here,
but the FARC want 100% of the land returned and massive compensation
for the return and resettlement of displaced peasant communities and a
disarmament of right wing vigilante groups and militia of the kind we
see in Uganda such as the UPDF commanded by Kayihura.

Bravo Coy, 41st IB Attacks NPA Unit, Suffers Casualties
Diego WadaganSpokesperson, Agustin Begnalen Command (NPA-Abra)May 31, 2013
On May 30, 2013 at 6 A.M., soldiers from the 41st IB's Bravo Coy
chanced upon an NPA unit and fired upon the NPA sentry. A firefight
ensued, with the NPA guerillas retreating for safety, as the soldiers
had the initial advantage. At 10 A.M. the NPA unit and the soldiers
again clashed, now with the NPA gaining advantage, as they mounted a
hasty ambush on the pursuing soldiers of the Bravo Coy, 41st IB.
The 2 incidents left three (3) soldiers killed, with undetermined
number still wounded. The NPA guerillas retreted safely. The 2
firefights took place at Mabolo, Gacab, Malibcong, Abra.
The AFP is now undertaking a mad pursuit operation, indiscriminately
bombing several areas in Malibcong Municipality. At 2P.M. on May 30,
2013, bombs were dropped in Gacab and Duldulao. At 7 A.M. today, May
31, 2013, helicopters bombed farmlands in Paoay, Umnap, Bangilo. At
9:05 A.M. a bomb also exploded in farmlands Barangay Lat-ey, 150
meters away from the community Micro-Hydro Power Plant, and only 40
meters away from 2 teenage girls who suffered warshock due to the
incident. A bomb was also dropped in nearby Sitio Alligang, Barangay
Lat-ey, Bangilo, Abra but failed to explode.
The NPA, with the full support of the people, will definitely
frustrate the current AFP offensive in North Abra. The people will
rise-up against the fascist AFP. Surely, the 503rd Brigade is
hellbent in "clearing" North Abra, to ensure easier entry of
large-scale mining companies.
