[UAH] KCCA – Kampala septic tanks pose landslides threat
How many holes call them septic tanks and pit latrines are located in Muyenga Hill as else where - what happens when Muyenga becomes a completely commercial entity with increased population, water use logged in septic tanks in already excavated hills will increase several folds over. Buziga, Namirembe, Mulago, Kiburi, Rubaga etc., all lack sewer system!
KCCA engineers must be knowledge about this condition that can create a boomerang effect!
I have witnessed the same unwarranted construction of houses in Mbarara and Kabale exactly in he same pattern. In fact, in Kabale the rate is quickly escalating to be termed catastrophic.
National Water and Sewerage Corporation is just looking on and taxing people instead of constructing sewer system in towns!
Hills around Kampala with slums have thousands of holes dug used as pit latrines – these do not only pose a danger to the dweller but are good trigger of massive landslides in the nearest future. The rate at which people are constructing an unplanned human settlement on Mutundwe Hill, Mulago, Kazo etc spells doom for Kampala.
The same hills are suffering from massive excavation of roads – in my opinion this must become a priority area to construct roads and also design appropriate storm water drainage system up hill. Otherwise water moving as fast as it can down hill will also contribute to landslides, destruction of roads down hill and erosion.
