MPs attack Museveni on ICC
By MERCY NALUGOPosted Sunday, June 2 2013 at 01:00
Two legislators have castigated President Museveni over his increasing attacks on the International Criminal Court (ICC). Mr Theodore Ssekikubo (Lwemiyaga) and Mr Barnabas Tinkasiimire (Buyaga), while addressing the press at Parliament on Friday, questioned President Museveni's scathing attack on ICC. The ICC, they said, is an institution that seeks to punish leaders subscribed to it for atrocities they commit and ill governance.

The MPs said they were going to write to the ICC officially expressing their support for the work it does.
Mr Ssekikubo said withdrawing Uganda from the ICC would mean giving Lord's Resistance Army commander Joseph Kony ,a green light to commit more atrocities.

Mr Tinkasiimire said: "On whose behalf does President Museveni make such pronouncement and who sent him? Did this proposal come to Parliament and who did he consult?" African heads of state attending the 50th anniversary celebrations of OAU in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, last week are reported to have passed a petition proposed by President Museveni calling on the ICC to terminate the cases against Kenyan top leaders and instead refer them back to Kenya.
Speaking at the inauguration of Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto in April, Mr Museveni accused the court of blackmail, incompetence and self-interest. President Museveni said the ICC had been "grabbed by a bunch of self-seekers and shallow minded people whose interests is to mint revenge on those who hold opposing views''. Mr Kenyatta and Mr Ruto stand indicted by the ICC for crimes against humanity following the 2008 post-election violence.
