[UAH] Politics, Culture and Business Management
Forumist
I need to understand why Indians and Uganda as well with strong family attachments, are thoroughly world apart when it comes to business matters and politics. Is there any studies on a research level that have been conducted to understand the business management in Uganda?
My long observation will suggest that African failures at business are cultural with a question mark. This has an interesting connection to politics and all its maladies generated. For instance, I have been very much interested in Urban Development issues. However and everywhere you go in Uganda, there is basically a similar pattern where politicians as well as civil servants behave in almost a similar manner.
For example; a district leader, a town clerk and district accounting officer – these are emperors in their own right. Big men and big women almost beyond reproach. Now from a sociological point of view, I have failed to understand this power structure and its impact on social change for it generates almost negativities on a social level. Indeed there is social change but rather an interesting one, encapsulated into the African thought pattern.
Now the above reinforced with the monetary structure, gains or quick self-sustenance and preservation has generated a rare behaviour. Take Indians and their family structure and business and then compare that to Uganda Africans, their families and business structures for example.
