[UAH] Wolokoso: Lukwago holds rally in police cell
Politicians will grab any opportunity that avails itself to make a point, and that is what Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago did when he was arrested in Kampala last week for attempting to hold an unauthorised rally.
Inside CPS' 'Serena cell' where he was detained, Lukwago found a crowd of detainees and decided to start where he had stopped with his rally.
"In the cell, there were over 100 suspects who were excited upon my arrival and asked me to address them," Lukwago told a local radio.
Police officers were alerted by the cheers from the cells, and so Lukwago had to be rearrested for holding a rally inside a police cell. He was transferred to Kira Division police station where he was held till the wee hours of Wednesday morning.
Museveni sets up 'Presidential Farm'
If there is any Ugandan who has ever donated a cow or a bull to President Museveni, rest assured that your donation was well treated. Wolokoso has established that the president jealously keeps all the animals donated to him.
Museveni revealed to a crowd that was listening to him during the Heroes day celebrations in Nakaseke district on June 9 that he has a special farm for such donations.
"I don't take the cows which you give me as donations to my farm in Kisozi," he said. "I have got a special farm for them and I named it the Presidential Farm, in Ngoma, Ggomba, and they are all there in plenty." Well done, Mr President.
Mayiga in age puzzle
His appointment as Buganda katikkiro was welcomed by many kingdom loyalists who hailed the Kabaka for appointing a youth, but one thing remains unclear – his age vis-à-vis his youthful credentials. Even when giving his biography during a thanksgiving mass at Lubaga Cathedral last Friday, Charles Peter Mayiga kept his age a top secret.
"I was born on June 19," he said, before asking the congregation whether it was necessary to reveal the year in which he was born. Even when the congregation answered in the affirmative, the katikkiro skipped his year of birth. So how old is he?
Kiyimba standsin for Kayihura
Several police officers and locals in Masaka were left wondering whether Nsangi LC-III chairman, Hajji Abdul Kiyimba, had taken over as the Inspector General of Police. This was after the police chief, Gen Kale Kayihura, failed to show up for a public meeting at Kinoni trading centre, one of the scenes of gruesome murders that have rocked the region recently, and instead sent Kayimba to represent him.
With very senior police officers present, it was strange that the IGP would be represented by a lowly LC-III chairman at the function. Nevertheless, Kiyimba took the assignment in his stride and threatened to reprimand and sack police officers who don't do their job.
MP Kaddumukasa couldn't care less
If Mityana South constituents thought they had an ordinary MP, they are mistaken. Last week, Wolokoso eavesdropped a conversation between Mityana South MP Jerome Ssozi Kaddumukasa, with his Kalungu West counterpart, Joseph Ssewungu, at Parliament's main entrance.
"I need money to help me look after the coffee bed for my constituents but I have not got any, yet it's so hot," Ssewungu told his friend.
But Kaddumukasa was not bothered.
"For me, I have retired from politics; so, don't even tell me about that business of looking for huge chunks of money to pump into constituents yet they continue to hate you," he said.
The MP added: "Can you imagine that you are now stressing yourself thinking of where to get the money to look after their projects yet they will be the ones to oppose you in the next general elections? I can never do that."
Kaddu's utterances didn't surprise Wokoloso, which has not seen him taking active part in his legislation duties since he joined the august House in 2006, after beating rivals that included Justice Augustine Nshimye.
MP Kakooza warns of biological threat
One of President Museveni and NRM's fiercest defenders, James Kakooza, has advised those opposed to the regime not to waste their time fighting it. Kakooza, the Kabula Member of Parliament and former minister, was overheard telling one of his colleagues at Parliament last week that no one would manage to unseat Museveni, except perhaps Biology.
"As NRM, we strategised and we want Museveni to leave power in 2021, and I am sure no one will stand in our way, apart from Biology," Kakooza said.
By biology, Kakooza was understood to be referring to nature.
The vocal MP, however, advised Museveni to do what he can to prepare himself well in case 'Biology' wants to derail the ruling party's plans.
"Much as I am sure that no one will unseat Museveni, I want him to prepare himself well [in case] of Biology taking charge. Biology is tough and no one has the capacity to resist; that is why all of us should prepare for it."
MP stings Amama in minority report
The Public Accounts Committee's report on corruption in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) is ready to be tabled before Parliament. A leaked version of the report pins several officials in the OPM but exonerates the Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi, which must have given him a reason to celebrate.
The celebration was, however, short-lived after it emerged that Kalungu West MP, Joseph Gonzaga Ssewungu, was writing a minority report that doesn't paint the premier in good colours.
Mbabazi joined the OPM in 2011, long after the thieving had started, but he was accused of trying to block the transfer of interdicted Principal Accountant, Godfrey Kazinda, who was last week convicted of related charges.
