Police's action comes days after outlawed pressure group For God and my Country (4GC) announced that they would resume protests against the government this week. Dr Besigye is a member of 4GC.
However, the Uganda police vowed to arrest anyone who tries to destabilize Kampala city with unlawful demonstrations.
In a press statement issued by Judith Nabakooba, the Uganda Police Spokesperson, the police says it "Shall not allow these unlawful, criminal plans of defiance to take place."
The resumption of 4GC protests coincides with the scheduled appearance of Kampala Capital City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago before a tribunal investigating his alleged mismanagement.
According to the police, 4GC members want to use the cover of accompanying Mayor Lukwago to cause chaos which the force wont tolerate.
