Reveals lengths pupils will go to when a question leaves them stumped

There is nothing quite like the sinking feeling that comes with turning over a test paper and realising you don't know what the answers are.

These pictures reveal some of the cheeky, imaginative and downright comical wrong answers given by clueless students when presented with a question that leaves them stumped.

One pupil, when asked to describe what hard water is, answered 'ice', while another optimistic student hoped pointing out that it was their birthday might encourage the examiner to review their paper with a more sympathetic eye.

The website Funnyexam.com is awash with hilarious answers given by pupils sitting tests both in the UK and in the U.S.

One student, presented with a picture of a ship and asked 'Can you draw this?', gave an honest answer, writing simply: 'No'.

Another, asked to explain why 'Tracy' had got her maths formula wrong on a worksheet, responded: 'Because she is a woman'.

Among the less amusing examples is a student's imagined 'letter to Hitler', in which she tells the Nazi leader how she has been 'a big fan of yours since I learned about you in history class'.

Remarks from frustrated teachers also appear on some of the papers, with comments ranging from 'Very funny Peter', to an exasperated 'Try harder next time'.
