[UAH] NO WONDER M7 IS EVERYWHERE ON THE LAW. THE COUNTRY HAS NO CHIEF JUSTICE

As the saying goes, justice delayed is justice denied, millions of Ugandans are currently in a predicament that best describes absolute denial of justice as country runs without a Chief Justice and the Director of Public prosecution.

Despite having no direct legal obligation to unveil his new chief of the Judiciary, President Yoweri Museveni's administration has come under intense criticism from the country's opposition, civil society and critics of the Kampala government over failure to appoint a new Chief Justice

There is growing fear across the country that the absence of the Chief Justice and the Director of Public prosecution is likely to compromise the independence of the country's Judiciary. The arm of government plays a pivotal role in the democratic process as the final arbiter of political contest among country's various political players.

The vacancies within the country's judicial system has attracted a private members bill in Uganda's parliament in an attempt to enact a new legislation aimed at prescribing when a judge can vacate office in line with the country's constitution.

It is not yet clear when the country's president will break the deadlock and announce his new Chief Justice.

Ugandans are concerned over the country's delay to appoint a new Chief Justice with many saying the leadership vacuum is already precipitating a constitutional crisis further worsened by the absence of the Director of Public prosecution and his deputy.
