Twenty civilians were killed today when their bus was blown apart as it hit a land mine in a forest five miles east of here, the Uganda radio reported.
Interior Minister John Luluwiza-Kirunda put the blame for the attack on bandits who have been responsible for a number of similar incidents in the Kampala area in recent weeks. He said that nine persons were killed in a land mine explosion 19 miles north of Kampala on Thursday.
The National Resistance Army (NRA) guerrillas opposed to the Government of President Milton Obote have stepped up their activities since the withdrawal this year of Tanzanian troops, who helped to overthrow President Idi Amin.
