Uganda president orders probe into national broadcaster (UBC)

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has ordered an immediate investigation into the country's national broadcaster over management irregularities, Press TVreports.

The president's probe into the struggling Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) came after the country's Auditor General announced in its earlier report that top officials have mismanaged millions of dollars, allocated to the national broadcaster.

Some cabinet ministers have been using transistors belonging to the national broadcaster to establish their private television stations, an act that is considered criminal, the Auditor General stated.

The report went on to say that such cases of mismanagement and abuse of national body for personal gains is still rife in the East African Country.

Meanwhile, Ugandan analysts have accused the ruling party and other politicians of using the national broadcaster as a platform to promote their political propaganda.

"What you see is a reflection of a political struggle and conflict within the ruling party. That is why you see the national broadcaster had all of these issues," a political analyst, named Nicholas Opio told Press TV.

Opio went on to say that, "There seems to be no stability; there seems to be no confidence in having a fairly free and a public service national broadcaster."
