More recently, we have given you some ideas for creative gifts for March 8 , but today we want to find out where the tradition of celebrating Women's Day.

Celebrating Women's Day

March 8, 1857 workers of shoe and garment factories organized a demonstration in New York. The title of this demonstration was to "march of empty pots." Women's demands were: the introduction of 10 hour day, instead of 16 hours, acceptable working conditions and salary equal muzhchskoy. The same day the women's unions began to appear, and for the first time women were given the right to vote.

Celebrating Women's Day

Clara Zetkin in 1910 at the International Conference in Copenhagen, proposed to hold an annual celebration March 8 - "International Day of Solidarity in the fight for women's economic, social and political equality." It was sort of a call to all women in the world to fight for equality.

February 23 (March 8), 1917, International Women's Day Neva thread factory workers took to the streets of St. Petersburg with the slogan "Bread and Peace." Workers demanded to return the men to the war and provide the city with bread and other food. Subsequently, a meeting has grown to mass strikes of workers throughout the city and multiple riots.

On May 8, 1965 in the Soviet Union that day was not a working day. Every year on this day celebrations sums up the state to the public on the implementation of state policy on women. But over time, International Women's Day began to lose its political character.
