{UAH} Land is all we have got

Because many Ugandans don't have skills outside of agriculture, land is all they have to earn a livelihood. Selling land to start business is a very tricky venture. Not everyone can start business and succeed. The majority fails even in developed economies but when they fail in advanced economies there are some safety nets that we don't have in Uganda.

So as Ttabamiruka meeting gets under way make sure you discuss recovery of all land taken away illegitimately. Masaka land was taken by people who came in as refugees and were given temporary accommodation until the situation improved politically in their countries so they can go back home. But these people have decided to stay permanently and displaced indigenous people.

In Luwero Triangle people were pushed out in the name of security when the principal motive was to displace indigenous people. All traces of previous ownership were destroyed and land had to be allocated by resistance committees favoring former herders and wage earners who were not indigenous people.

The Agreement between Museveni and Mutebi allows no one to be evicted and there is no fixed date when transfer of ebyaffe will be made. Besides Mengo is expected to provide proof of ownership of properties and assets which do not include land occupied in Masaka and Mengo since 1960. Different cultures will be practiced freely basically creating nations within the nation of Buganda.

Museveni and Mutebi agreed not to criticize each other and the Agreement between the two is final. Lukiiko and Parliament will not discuss it. Don't even go to court because the two leaders will win. Baganda should just say no to the Agreement and the matter will be resolved politically when a new government sympathetic to the public is in place. This is work of a researcher and civic educator.
