{UAH} Zambia: SPEAKER TO ACT AS PRESIDENT ONCE UPND SUBMITS PETITION

Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini will act as president once the UPND submits it's petition to challenge the election of Edgar Lungu.

And the constitutional court will have to hear the petition within 14 days.

Article 104, clause 3 of the amended constitution states that where an election petition is filed against the incumbent or an election is nullified , the speaker SHALL perform the executive functions except the power to make an appointment or to dissolve the National Assembly.

Once petitioned, the constitutional court has powers to nullify the election of Lungu and Inonge Wina or to affirm their election.

Lungu and Wina will not be sworn in until the court decides and whatever the court will decide will be final.
