On this day 16th August 16 years ago, ADF rebels attacked St John's Seminar. 41 would be priets were abducted that night and taken to the wilderness in the Rwenzori Mountains and introduced to rebel activity. Some of the abducted seminarians managed to escape, others rescued but a good number of them did not manage to make it back. Opio was the first to be murdered while in the wilderness. Kadole Francis, Bitambeki Francis, Musinguzi and many others were confirmed to have died in the wilderness. The last batch of seminarians to be rescued were picked as they came to attack Mutundwe hill in the year 2000. Some have been integrated in the army, others are living civilian life.

Maj. Gen Kazini (Rip) the then Army chief of staff( hated by Mr. Otto Patrick), Gen Katumba Wamala the then 2nd Division Commander (current CDF), Maj Gen Charles Angina the then 503 Brigade commander (I think Current Deputy CDF) played a crucial role in their rescue and protection. Most of them (Seminarians 1995-1998) will forever remain indebted to them for their lives.

May the souls of all those Seminarians dead rest in peace and I pray that those we understand that are still alive and still in the camps of ADF in Congo will one day return to freedom. Ameen!
