{UAH} Press misrepresents IGP's directive
I have read with concern the story in today's Saturday Monitor, titled
"Kayihura starts probe into riots since 2005."
The story alleges that I have ordered a special investigation into all
incidents of public riots and demonstration since 2005 to identify the
offenders and hold them responsible.
This story is false, misleading, and a complete distortion of my
internal directive to CID.
There is no new or special probe that I have ordered into riots, as
alleged by The Monitor.
What we are doing is completing existing cases, which were opened, but
remains unresolved.
The directive I gave is that the old case files should be investigated
and completed. If there is no evidence, they should be closed, or if
there is evidence, they should be taken to court. Those that are in
court should be fast-tracked and disposed off.
This is a routine administrative directive that I normally give, has
nothing to do with the recently passed Public Order Management Bill by
Parliament.
We are not opening any public hearing as alleged.
