{UAH} Salim Saleh More Powerful Than Ever

THE INDIAN OCEAN NEWSLETTER N°1361 - 26/07/2013

Salim Saleh more powerful than ever

Since the defection of General David Sejusa, the President's brother and advisor, General Salim Saleh, has been constantly increasing his power.

When it comes to security matters, President Yoweri Museveni turns more and more to members of his own family. His son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, supervises the protection of the presidential palace and strategic zones, while his brother, General Salim Saleh, is keeping a watchful eye on the army and the intelligence services. The latter has had his functions expanded considerably since General David Sejusa, the former coordinator of intelligence services, went into dissidence. An advisor to the President on security issues, Saleh was recently designated by Museveni to the head of a committee with the task of monitoring the loyalty of high-ranking officers. At the same time, he oversees a programme to aid veterans in the armed struggle that brought Museveni to power in 1985. Finally, he is in charge of reorganising the intelligence services in order to prevent a possible opposition alliance between General Sejusa and the kingdom of Buganda. He has his work cut out!
