Sam Kutesa wants to become the next president of the UN General Assembly
Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kutesa has asked Parliament for Shs 200m to support his candidature as the next president of the 68th UN General Assembly.
Kutesa says his campaign would take him to several countries beyond Africa.
"We are looking for support from Asia, the Americans and Europe," he told Parliament's Foreign Affairs committee on Monday.
"That means we are supposed to physically be there to talk to them. Otherwise, we have got full endorsement from the African continent," Kutesa explained.
He said the money would be spent on travel and equipping embassies with the capacity to lobby for Uganda's candidate. If elected, Kutesa would replace 37-year- old Serbian Vic Jeremy and serve a one-year term.by DEO WALUSIMBI
