Hunted: Gen David Sejusa

Exiled General David Sejusa, better known as Tinyefuza, has one more thing to wrestle with, a Russian gang that wants to blow him up in London.

Speaking to The Observer by telephone at the weekend, an aide said Sejusa's security had been heightened and with the general avoiding to speak to people on phone.

"The Russian mafias have the MTI technology mostly used to hit someone who picks a phone call from them…" the aide said from London.  "With this information at hand, the security team of Gen Sejusa has taken precautions which can't be revealed to the press right now."

The aide could, however, not say who could have hired the alleged gang to target Sejusa. Neither could this claim be independently verified. But when interviewed for this story, Sejusa's lead lawyer in Uganda, Joseph Luzige, confirmed that he had heard about the alleged plot.

"I have heard about the plot from my client but I have no details about it except that I can confirm that these days, he no longer uses his known mobile phone," Luzige said at the weekend.

UPDF Spokesperson Paddy Ankunda said at the weekend that although the army knew the whereabouts of Sejusa in London, they has no intention of tracking him or even harming him.

"The only fact is that there is an investigation going on in relation to Sejusa's utterances to find out whether there is a case against Gen Sejusa and if we need him, we can contact the International police to hand him over," Lt Col Ankunda said.

Sejusa fled to London days before the press published his dossier alleging a plot to assassinate top government officials opposed to reported presidential ambitions of First son Brig Muhoozi Kainerugaba. He has since written several missives and given interviews to international media outlets, attacking President Museveni's government. In a separate email to The Observer, the general also warned army chief Edward Katumba Wamala to watch his back.

He said Gen Katumba was a prisoner of the NRM government, who was only being used "to buy time as they (Government) fidget to recover from the shocks (of his exile) which won't be simple."

Sejusa singled out Katumba because the CDF, in a recent interview with The Observer, criticised him for acting unilaterally out of anger, without consulting President Museveni.

"Where is (Maj Gen James) Kazini, (former CDF) Aronda (Nyakairima) etc? Tell Wamala to be careful because I know what I'm talking about. Just a few months ago, he (Wamala) was being accused of working with Prof (Gilbert) Bukenya and tapes allegedly of Wamala and (former VP) Bukenya were taken to Museveni. Wamala knows what I'm talking about," he said in the email dated August 13, 2013.

Gen Katumba could not be reached for comment at the weekend and Ankunda declined to comment, saying Sejusa's comments were so personal. In the same email, Sejusa also had a word of caution for Brig Kasirye Gwanga, who is battling threats of an eviction from his residential house in Makindye. Sejusa urged Gwanga to remain true to himself and not beg for help from Museveni because government used him (Gwanga) and abused him.

"Museveni does not forgive," Sejusa said, adding that instead, the government should be asking Gwanga for forgiveness.

But Sejusa's advice came a little too late. Gwanga has already sought President Museveni's help over an eviction from his Makindye home. Sejusa has also asked the speaker of Parliament for a third three-month extension to his official leave.

His latest request and official permission ends on August 24, 2013. Luzige wrote to the speaker on Friday. A source in Parliament told us that Speaker Rebecca Kadaga would consider Sejusa's request this week.
