World and Olympic marathon champion Stephen Kiprotich on Monday flew back into the country, and was received at Entebbe International Airport by officials from government, the Prisons and several fans.
In the brief address he gave soon after disembarking the flight, Kiprotich said he "does not have much to say," apart from thanking Ugandans for their support. He also said his win in Moscow had corrected the mistakes of theLondon Marathon, where he finished sixth.
Kiprotich arrived at Entebbe aboard an Emirates flight which touched down at 12:38 PM. Dressed in a black suit, his ever-present smile showed no signs of fatigue.
He was received by two Prisons officials carrying the national and prisons flags. However, Kiprotich was only handed the national flag as he descended the plane stairs.
Also present at the airport was the Minister forEducation and Sports, Jessica Alupo.
Kiprotich was later driven out of the airport in a black limousine to Protea Hotel, Entebbe where he was to check in to prepare for a luncheon at State House Entebbe later this afternoon. The luncheon will be presided over by the Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi, since the President is upcountry.
On arrival at Protea Hotel Kiprotich was greeted by a large crowd that had gathered to await his arrival.
