{UAH} NEMA is a sick institution....Preparing my demonstration shoes!

The High Court in Nakawa in July 2013 dismissed an application filed by Sudhir Ruparelia seeking to bar the Wakiso District LC5 Chairman and his staff from condemning his (Sudhir) activities in the Lutembe wetland which he is degrading to create room for commercial flower farming (Story in July 30 2013 New Vision P.4).

 The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has publicly declared that it gave the tycoon a license to destroy 50 hectares (about 120 acres) of the wetland which is also a Ramsar site.

No wonder someone called NEMA a national environmental degrading/ destroying authority. If we are to be sincere with ourselves, what is the relevance of NEMA? Issuing permits, leases and concessions? The tax payer, including myself will continue to support and finance some of the government institutions that have proved irrelevant. I'm beginning to think that before NEMA came into existence in 1995 things were far better that what we see today.

Time has come for the general public to refuse such state of affairs. Preparing my demonstration shoes!
