{UAH} SAD BUT FUNNY: 'Contract killers' spare target, tip off police
By Moses Lemisa
A cab driver lived to see another day after contractors who had been hired to kill him instead whisked their boss to police.
The suspect, Moses Nsubuga of Erisa Zone in Kyebando, is said to have hired people to kill Issa Kizito, a colleague he works with at Park Yard in Wandegeya.
According to the contractors, Nsubuga's plan was to rob Issa's car, Toyota Carina, registration number UAG 192.
The target, Kizito, narrated that someone called him on phone and told him they wanted to be transported to the airport at midnight and he was to pick them from Hotel Prisma in Kyebando, a Kampala suburb.
At the agreed time, he drove to the hotel but the person was not picking his call. He then used another number to call and he was told to wait -- that they were still finishing up with something.
Then came the turning point.
A short while later they called him and asked him (Kizito) if he had misunderstandings with Nsubuga because he had contracted them to kill him.
They assured him that they had dragged Nsubuga to Kaleerwe Police Station and he (the target) could find him there because they were not killers.
Nsubuga had reportedly paid them sh600,000 to take the man's life!
He was charged with attempted murder on file number SD: 02/24/09/13 and later transferred to Wandegeya Police Station, a few minutes away from the city centre.
Nsubuga's colleagues were shocked by his motive.
Abdallah Bwete, the chairperson of Park Yard stage said they were extremely shocked that their own colleague could hire people to kill one of them.
He urged police to thoroughly investigate the matter because it seemed Nsubuga had a gang of criminals he was operating with.
Aaron Bamukyaye, Nsubuga's boss said he was speechless that the man could think of taking a man's life. He however begged police not to impound his car since it had nothing to do with the case.
Abasi Kiwalabye, a colleague had no kind words for Nsubuga. He swore if he comes back to the stage, "he is a dead man".
He said Nsubuga should be locked up in Luzira prison because he belonged with criminals who have made their lives a living hell.
Kiwalabye said they have so far lost a colleague and two vehicles from the stage this year.
