{UAH} Do you heartedly love Uganda

When Churchhill named Uganda the pearl of Africa; he had just moved by the beauty of this country. this beauty was comprised of a combination of; good climate, suffient rainfall and fertile soils the facts that supported crop and livestock production. then forested hiils with water steams in every valley in between, flat lands, wet lands and water bodies with fresh waters, natural forests with fascinating fauna and flora.

All the above indicators are no more due to unsustainable consumption by greedy Ugandans including you and me. the worst of all being massive destruction of natural forests which formed the center of gravity for the rest of indicators.

My challenge to you is that whoever feels that he/she is worth being a member of UAH, should join the campaign of restoring uganda' forest cover.

I know it is not possible to in Uganda to have a private person planting trees for environmental reasons but at least plant for commercial reasons then environment will benefit indirectly. You will agree with me that with current daily increase demand for wood products, the only way to protect the few skeltons of natural forests that remaining is by establishing plantation forests to supply these wood products. Increasing demand for wood products also emplies that tree planting is a viable and sustainable business.

The right persons to do this are those with large chanks of such as Kateregga Musazi and those wih enough money to hire/lease land. at current market price a single tree sells between ugsh.3000/= and 500,000/= depending on size and species ( eg; a small pole of eucalyptus is 3000/= a mature one for timber can fetch 300,000 and more while a mature teak tree is 500,000/= and above). suppose you have 10,000trees for timber, how much money will earn?

Many Ugandans are making mistakes in land use especially those in love with livestock! You here that a person is grazing 1000 cows on say 5sq.miles of land. if such a person would put just one sq.mile (about 250ha)under tree plantation development; this would need about 277,500tree seedlings on subsquent management would produce about 150,000mature trees (for timber). take the average current price of 200,000/= per tree, you get 30Billion. If you price your cows at 2Million each you get 15,000 cows.

The we have people like Tamale Mirundi with 20 matatues/Kamunye for public transport. If each Kamunye is 10M then ten of them is 100M. If he buys a tree seedling at 500/= (most plantation tree seedlings cost less than this) he will get 20,000seedlings which will give him around 12,000trees at harvesting for timber. As above if he sells each tree at 200,000/= he will earn 2.4Billion, leaving 0.4 for management costs he gets 2Billion. Do you think you can make a net profit of 2billion from just 20kamunyes in a period of 20years more in so lamp sum?

I am telling you this from technical and professioanal point of view, it is not politicks. so any you who has a different view a bout trees and forest can contact me. For field advice you only need to arrange transport to the field since I am legless I can not transport myself.
