FDC 'celebrates' Rubaramira's defection - National
Kampala- Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Secretary General, Alice Alaso has said Maj (Rtd) Rubaramira Ruranga's defection to NRM is, "a huge sigh of relief to the party worthy of celebration."
In an exclusive interview with the Daily Monitor yesterday, the Serere District woman MP described the self-proclaimed HIV/Aids activist, now thrust into the limelight, as a man whose departure was long overdue and a blessing in disguise to the leading opposition party in the country.
A jovial and all smiling Alaso said: "His official return to his political home was a question of time. There was every sign that he was going. In 2007 he wrote to me saying he was leaving active politics. In 2012 he returned disowning his earlier position and when I presented the letter he wrote he just became shy."
Huge relief
"It is a huge sigh of relief. I knew it was supposed to come to this. I thank God that finally he has come out to show where his passion has always been and which camp he has always worked for. He has been branding us moles and now who is the mole? The party needs a shake up so that we remain with genuine members," she added.
It should be remembered that at the start of the campaigns for the FDC party presidency, Maj Rubaramira, then the campaign manager of Leader of Opposition Nandala Mafabi dismissed current party president, Mugisha Muntu as an NRM mole.
Ms Alaso made reference to the hotly contested FDC party presidential elections: "From the way he ran the campaign, he showed he did not care about the future of the party. I actually expected Mr Nandala to rein on him and he actually told me he tried."
