Who: Pueblo Soup Kitchen and UCE Uganda Youth Clubs

What: Open-house fundraiser

When: Sept. 27

Where: Custom Carpet and Interiors

Highlights/honorees: Pat and Bobbie Rooney hosted a unique open-house fundraiser, inviting everyone to shop generously, since all proceeds were for two worthwhile charities. The 125 attendees enjoyed music by the Pueblo Symphony Brass Quintet and savored specialty hors d'oeuvres. They then made a difference in many lives by purchasing furniture, artwork, decorator items, jewelry, sports packages and gift baskets that had been donated for these causes.

Who benefits: Thanks to funds raised, the Pueblo Soup Kitchen will serve 2,000 meals and UCE Uganda will outfit 100 youths for after-school sports and other youth activities.

Info: Purchases, proceeds of which will go to these charities, can still be made at Custom Carpet and Interiors, 518 W. 10th St.
