KIBOGA - Supreme Mufti Sheikh Zubair Kayongo has called on the non Muslims to stop the blame game on terrorism but work together with Muslims to fight the doctrine.

"Islamic religion has no connection at all with terrorism, but it's a religion of peace and love; some people who make some unfortunate statements such as Muslims are Al-Shabab or Al-Qaeda as we hear even in our villages target to discredit Islamic religion," he said.

Kayongo made the statement as he addressed both Muslims and non Muslims who graced a function to commission a new mosque at the supreme mufti's country home in Buswabulongo village in Lwamata sub-county, Kiboga district.

The mosque construction was funded by Islamic Guidance and Development Association of Uganda. 

Sheikh Murushid Buwembo, the chairperson of the association, said that the mosque brought the total of the association' funded mosques to 300 across the country.

Kayongo explained that anybody can become a terrorist regardless of the religion.

"But as Muslims we condemn and disassociate ourselves from any kind of terrorist attacks since they are ungodly and very contrary to Allah's teachings," he said.

Kayongo said non Muslims and Muslims should discourage violence by preaching forgiveness, reconciliation, unity and love.  

"I emphasise that even our children should be up brought with good discipline of forgiveness, reconciliation, unity and love to ensure a violence free generation," Kayongo said.

The Mufti called on the local leaders to play a greater role in uniting the people citing that some times divisive politics has acted as the spark plug of violence.

Prince Kasimu Nakibinge, who officiated as the chief guest, called on the Muslims to start up development projects on the mosques to generate income to support Islam.

"I appeal to you all that in your prayers at this new Masgid, always remember to pray for peace in our nation and ensure you develop the lands at our mosques with income generating projects which will help to support our religion," he said

The state minister for fisheries and Kiboga woman Member of Parliament, Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu, who contributed sh500,000 to support the activities of the supreme mufti, assured Kayongo that the NRM government recognised the immense contributions of Muslims and won't allow any body to sow seeds of discord against them.

She however called on the general public in Kiboga to adhere to the security measures since terrorism is currently a great threat to our country and the region as a whole following Kenya's Westgate Mail terrorist attack in Nairobi that claimed over 67 people.
