Tutors on Friday morning stormed the office of the Resident District Commissioner- Moroto. They were protesting the failure by Education Ministry to remit their salaries from five to 16 months.

John Okello, a tutor, says they have now reached a situation that they cannot look after their families. He explains that they have borrowed and are overwhelmed by debts. He notes that walking to the RDC's office was an indication that the protest was not violent. He continues to say that they will not return to the lecture rooms if the ministry does not pay them the salaries.

Pax Inziku, also a tutor at the college says for the last months his children have survived in school through begging. He adds that this being third term, he there is not much he can say to convince the schools not to kick them out. He is afraid that his children will miss out annual examinations if does not meet the school dues.

Paul Abul, the District Education Officer – Moroto admits the failure by the concerned ministries to pay up the tutors. He says the event may lead to poor performance of teachers in the offing. He, however, says he was not aware of the strike since his in Kampala.

Nahaman Ojwee, the RDC Moroto appeals to the tutors to have a heart for the students and return to the lecture rooms. He promised to contact the Education and Finance Ministry after he returns to the office on Monday.

Efforts to talk to Sr. Agnes Lomongin, the principal of the college were futile as her known phones were off.

Two of the 36 college staff members have not received their salaries since July 2012; three since October last year, while the remaining 31 have missed their pay for the last four months.
