Alleged fake doctor claimed York U degree

TORONTO - An alleged bogus doctor who's accused of treating hundreds of patients at two New York State hospitals after claiming he graduated from York University has been arrested by the FBI for health care fraud.

Fitzgerald Anthony Hudson, 51, who once lived on Gardentree St., Scarborough, will appear in a Buffalo court on April 4 facing allegations he defrauded U.S. health officials of payments of more than $200,000 for illegally treating patients.

He was arrested March 15 in Buffalo following complaints from patients and insurance companies, police said.

The FBI alleged Hudson, who's originally from Michigan, has been treating patients from 2008 to 2010 at New York's Jones Memorial Hospital in

Wellsville, and the Nicholas H. Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville.

He also allegedly worked as an emergency room doctor at one time.

Officials of both hospitals refused comment since the case is before the courts.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron Mango said on Monday that investigators are interviewing hundreds of patients to determine if more charges will be laid.

"There are literally hundreds of patients," Mango alleged. "We are trying to determine whether he (allegedly) inflicted serious body injury against others in an offence (for) which he can face 20-years in prison."

Mango said Hudson obtained a medical licence in 2007 by listing on his New York State application that he graduated from York University — Facility of Science, in North York.

"York University neither issued nor conferred any degree upon Hudson," according to a U.S. police affidavit.

The suspect was given a failing grade by the university in Ideology and Morality for "academic dishonesty" in 1990, the affidavit stated, adding he left York without a degree, according to U.S. authorities.

The FBI alleged Hudson also failed to list that he had been dismissed from the Warren Hospital Family Practice residency program in 2003.

Hudson is also accused of lying on applications for admission to American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine and Ross University School of Medicine in West Indies.
