{UAH} FDC BIGWIGS BLAME INTERNAL SHORTCOMINGS FOR 2011 POOR SHOW

For sometime, Ugandans have been bombarded with the gospel of
allegations of rigging from the 2011 elections (in favour of the NRM).
Some believed, some didn't. However, opposition participants who lost
have kept up the tempo, defying anything to do with gov't with an
overriding excuse that the whole thing was a sham.

It is of great interest, however, that in the brief season receding,
some FDC top shots have been heard amending their minds on the matter,
though inadvertently. Party President, Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu, in a
New Vision interview last year when asked why he thought his party
failed, blamed lack of resources (adding that FDC isn't in gov't and
therefore has no access to fat accounts). Earlier during the campaigns
which had brought him to that office against Hon. Nandala Mafabi, his
rival's campaign manager, Ms. Sarah Eperu (in a Sunday Vision
interview) observed that FDC had lost the general elections due to
Muntu's poor mobilisation strategy (the General was Organising
Secretary).

As for FDC lion, Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye, during one of his run-ins
with police in Kampala, in facing cameras, demanded recognition as
President of Kampala and for that matter, deserved all rights to comb
the city at will. At the more recent Rukungiri independence circus, he
was offended that anyone could imply that people of an FDC stronghold
wanted to cross en masse to NRM. Note that Besigye in both cases lends
himself to results as declared by the much-battered E.C.

Last night, while featuring in an NTV talkshow, long-serving Aswa
County MP and FDC founder, Hon. Reagan Okumu, when put on spot as to
why in 2011 the party flunked in the North, where he is born, yet
scored beautifully in 2006 and 2001, the legislator (one of the few
mature ones) attributed the slump in fortunes to disorganization (and
distanced himself from blame saying this time he wasn't the
co-ordinator as of old).

Now, there! Four senior voices counting on internal shortcomings than
exogenous factors. These are things they don't tell the open
constituency which doesn't consume urban media and there is nothing
to show that any has protested being misquoted hence the conclusion
that all along, they, especially Besigye, have been misreading the
pointers to their electoral freeze and this nearly threw the country
in total anarchy. Or were uncharacteristically dishonest.
