Dear All
Octoberr 9, 2013 Joseph Mujoobe Kazairwe (left in the picture) was postmouthsly awarded a freedom fighter's medal. His son Simon Peter Kandole, the current CAO Kanungu, collected the medal on his father's behalf.
Medals are no new in the Kazairwe family. The attached picture shows Kazairwe, left, with medals he was awarded by the British Government in recognition of his role in World War Two. With him is Leo Ssebalaba a retired, long standing teacher in Bunyoro-Kitara.
Kazairwe is best remembered for his military leadership of Mubende Banyoro Committee when he introduced a new policy that of demanding a total secession of the Lost Couties from Buganda. He introduced militarism to the Banyoro instead of begging Baganda to allow Banyoro to speak their mother tongue and not to force them into Baganda clans and to adopt Kiganda names.
He led Banyoro to the 1964 Buyaga Bugangaizi Referendum where people voted overwhelmingly to restore the Lost Counties to Bunyoro-Kitara.
