Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has been arrested by Police at his home

Beleaguered Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has been arrested by police at his home.

Fellow opposition activists; Ingrid Turinawe, Mubarak Munyagwa, the Kawempe Mayor and Doreen Nyanjura have also been arrested and are currently held at Central Police station in Kampala.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander Andrew Felix Kaweesi says Lukwago has been arrested  for vowing to go ahead with the rally.

Kaweesi says Lukwago will only be charged if he assents to this.

There are reports that he is currently detained at Naggalama Police Station in Mukono District.

Police has maintained heavy deployment at Nakivubo blue settlement primary school to block opposition politicians from staging a rally in support of Erias Lukwago, the embattled City Lord Mayor.

"As long as i am here, no politician will enter Nakivubo Blue primary school" Sam Omara, senior Superintendent of police in charge of operations.

On Friday, Betty Nambooze, the Mukono Municipality MP announced plans by opposition politicians to stage a rally at Nakivubo blue settlement primary school to explain the KCCA tribunal report to city dwellers. The report issued by the KCCA tribunal chaired by Justice Catherine Bamugemeirere implicates Lukwago for alleged incompetence, failure to sign council minutes and abuse of office.
