{UAH} Nakirembeka should stand as MP somewhere like the Ssegonas did?
Kabaka Ronald Muwenda on Thursday offloaded the firebrand Nakirembeka Waliggo from the list of his powerful officials at Mengo, the administrative seat of Buganda.
Nakirembeka had up to yesterday been the head of the abataka (elders and opinion leaders) in Buganda.
Nakirembeka was arguably the last Dan Muliika -like hot-headed Mengo officials who made President Museveni catch flu whenever he sneezed.
While Kabaka swept Mengo of earlier hot-headed officials that included Hajj Yusuf Nsubuga Nsambu, MP Medard Ssegona, Betty Bakireke Nambooze among others, he tactfully left Nakirembeka in place to balance the vocal fire from Kampala government.
And Nakirembeka has not disappointed in that role whenever it came to throwing barbs at President Museveni and his government officials who dared prick the Kabaka.
Ceasefire Pact
With the signing of the Kabaka-Museveni cease fire agreement, it became apparent that Nakirembeka's days were numbered. In the agreement, President Museveni and the Kabaka undertook to end the beef between Kampala and Mengo.
In fact, the Kabaka himself emphasized during the unveiling of the agreement that his officials should cease forthwith to bad-mouth Kaguta and his government. Since the agreement was penned, Kabaka Mutebi and Museveni have both kept their part of the bargain as far as crossing each other's paths is concerned.
Breach
On the contrary and even with the agreement in place let alone the Kabaka's avowal to keep the spirit and letter of the pact, Nakirembeka has still found time to sting Museveni and his government.
We understand that the sober minds in Mengo, including Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, who was a consensus agreement between Kabaka and Museveni for the post, religious leaders, opinion leaders and Museveni as well as his handlers had become jittery over Nakirembeka's foul-mouth.
Mayiga personally discussed the nitty-gritty of the agreement with Museveni with the express approval of the Kabaka who appended his signature on the final document. This must have made the youthful Premier very uncomfortable serving with the loud-mouthed Nakirembeka and so begged his boss to offload the man.
Warning
Sources at Mengo told the Investigator that the Kabaka and his Katikkiro had kept the sack under wraps. As such, when Mutebi finally swung the axe, it hit Nakirembeka like a thunderbolt.
We can reveal that the sack also serves as a serious warning to Mengo officials to abide by the agreement clause on keeping good relations between Mengo and Kampala or follow Nakirembeka.
Challenge
By sacking Nakirembeka, Kabaka Mutebi, we learnt, wanted to throw a challenge to Museveni to watch over his officials who may breach the agreement by attacking Mengo.
Enter Ssaabanyala
To divert Baganda from Nakirembeka's sack, we can reveal, Museveni decided to send his Minister to Parliament with a list of traditional leaders with Buganda's nemesis Ssaabanyala Capt Baker Kimeze missing.
And it did the trick. Baganda jubilated over Kimeze's woes and forgot all about Nakirembeka's sack, which could have incensed many.
We have learnt that government will however include Kimeze's name on the official list of traditional leaders in the near future, but will do it silently to avoid angering Baganda.
In fact, sources in the know dismissed Kimeze's missing name as a gimmick.
"The man receives emoluments and security like it happens with other traditional leaders, what makes him a non-traditional leader then. It's all crap," our sources argued.
