Ntungamo police arrest 11 over solar panels theft
By Fred TuryakiraNTUNGAMO- At least eleven people suspected to have stolen solar panels have been held.
The Police flying squad headed by detective commissioner, Charles Kataratambi and Police in Ntungamo district on Tuesday busted the racket of suspected thieves.
Rwizi region Police spokesperson, Polly Namaye told journalists on Wednesday at her office in Mbarara that stolen solar panels belonged to South Western Umbrella of Water and Sanitation supply scheme project.
The Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura, who was in Ntungamo, last week, said the Ruhaama County Mp, First Lady, Janet Museveni , complained about theft of 13 Solar panels used to pump water, which crippled the project works. Four transformers were also stolen in her constituency.
Namaye, said that 13 solar panels were stolen on November 10, at the projects site at Nyakika Primary School in Ruhaama Sub-county, Ruhaaama County. However Police managed to arrest the suspects and recover 13 solar panels.
Police identified the suspects as, John Tubaine, a police officer attached to Ntungamo, who was guarding the water scheme, Enock Mutabazi, 35, a Scheme operator, Hilary Ruhangariyo, 30, a technician, Ndyanabo Cornelio, 42.
Others are, Geoffrey Tumwesigye, 39, Bernard Byaruhanga alias Columbus, 36, Julius Karoza, 32, Patrick Nshemerirwe, 34, Michael Tuhumwire, 31, Benon Kamiru, 35, a resident of Kyabukube, Kikagati Sub-county at Uganda - Tanzania border.
