How Victorious Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago gave Government an Excuse to Lock him Up at Home as he is Stopped from Accessing Office

By Stephen K Muwambi

Like we reported yesterday, government made it impossible for man of the moment Erias Lukwago to make a heroic entry into City Hall as Lord Mayor.

It’s common knowledge that armed cops today made it impossible for Lukwago to leave his home in Lubaga, a Kampala suburb.

The above, our colleagues in other media houses have ably brought to you our dear readers but  what they have not told you however is that, Lukwago himself gave government a good excuse to lock him up in his house.

Slip of Tongue

When Justice Yasin Nyanzi suspended Lukwago’s impeachment, the excited Mayor talked of storming City Hall ninja style to take back his office. Lukwago’s statement went viral on social media and was picked up by newspapers.

Lukwago’s nemesis Jennifer would jump on the Lord Mayor’s vow and declare a close down of KCCA technical operations. As justification for the sweeping declaration, Jennifer claimed she feared Lukwago would captain mobs to storm City Hall and cause havoc.

She added that she feared Lukwago’s so called mobs would end up destroying KCCA properties such as garbage trucks, tractors among others, causing the council loss.

Lukwago walked the talk when he drove from the Twed Plaza based High Court threatening to storm City Hall there and then. Jennifer and Kampala Minister Frank Tumwebaze called in cops who deployed heavily inside and outside the KCCA premises in readiness for Lukwago’s entry.

Sensing defeat if he carried out his vow on Thursday--the day his impeachment was lifted, Lukwago declared he would carry out the heroic entry into City Hall the following day, which is today.

The KCCA Chief Executive Director must have choked on laughter, hearing Lukwago repeatedly saying he was planning on accessing City hall. So must have the Kampala Minister Frank Tumwebaze and more particularly the architect of Lukwago’s woes Sevo.

It’s at this point in time, our well informed sources told us, Sevo directed Minister Frank Tumwebaze to call Jennifer and tell her to close down the KCCA technical operations.

“Frank, don’t forget to tell my daughter to issue a statement blaming the grounding of civil works on Lukwago’s threats to cause havoc as he captured the mayorship office, Kaguta is reported to have emphasized to his trusted lieutenant Tumwebaze, who once served under his Presidential Guards outfit.

Implications

By making the order, Kaguta wished to paint Lukwago as a hooligan and justify his restriction at home thereby failing his return to City Hall.

Two, the political wizard that is Sevo wanted Kampalans to treat Lukwago’s threats to storm City Hall as the cause of the freeze on collecting rubbish and fixing pot holes among other vital services.

But above all, Sevo wanted Police to get the justification to restrict Lukwago’s movement and by extension, fail his return to City Hall.
