Do Ugandans still trust their court system in such high profile cases, to mete out justice in a fair manner to folks out of favour with the President? Would the investigating machinery do a thorough and professional job to produce a body of admissible evidence without presidential bias or a meddling upper hand of power? We have seen far too many of such cases resulting in folks being guilty - as a way of retaliation for opposing the president's bid. Whereas those still in favour are almost always let go Scott free- despite the heavily weighted body of evidence against them.
Most Ugandans have now resigned to the usual apathy - of "Guilty without proper finding" , because they are in tune and are more savvy of prevailing legal malpractice; - they are no longer duped by presidential kangaroo courts convened by no peers of the accused, but by a hand chosen group of jurors hired to deliver the head of the accused to the executive branch of government at all costs. They also know when a man is being unfairly prosecuted and charged and when a good justice is being railroaded and arm twisted to please the President. If it quacks like a duck and it has webbed toes, "hello" it is a duck~ Folks Mayor Lukwago - though may have done some mischief and misconduct in office, he has been the target of the executive for quite sometime - so all the vitriol from the executive - has tarnished any case that they would have liked to bring against him to be nailed in a public arena.
