A Cabinet Minister Wonders  why Lukwago and Jennifer Cannot See Eye to Eye Yet they are all Baganda, Asks Kabaka to Intervene as Architect of Impeachment Councilor Byaruhanga Demands the troubled Politician to Apologize or Forget about Lord Mayorship

By Stephen K Muwambi

Government Chief Whip Justine Kasule Lumumba has expressed surprise at the sickening beef between two Baganda; Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and KCCA Chief Executive Director Jennifer Musisi Ssemakula.

“If Lukwago was bickering with a non-muganda and vice versa, one may blame it on the difference in tribe. But for the two Baganda to tear at each other, is disturbing indeed, Lumumba opined.

Accordingly, Lumumba suggests that Mengo, the administrative seat of Buganda kingdom, sits the two bickering personalities down in order to have them reconcile.

“Since the two are Baganda, Mengo should help them resolve their differences after all the two are the kingdom’s subjects, Lumumba concluded.

Apologize

Meanwhile, Councillor Byaruhanga, the man who captained the 29 colleagues in the battle that led to Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago’s impeachment now demands he apologizes to the council.

In an interview, Byaruhanga dismissed Justice Yasin Nyanzi’s ruling that lifted Lukwago’s impeachment, chorusing government position that there was no impeachment to stop because it had taken place anyway.

“Lukwago will have to apologize to the council if he wants to be forgiven and return as Lord Mayor, Byaruhanga said.

“Parrot?

Keen followers of Lukwago’s circus would immediately understand Byaruhanga to be echoing President Yoweri Museveni’s demand to Lukwago to apologize for the beef between the two to end.

No Sir!

Lukwago, who had called for a ceasefire with his political adversaries in a statement he issued last Monday upon his court victory, has since hardened thanks to the disguised house arrest that police has since imposed on him.

In fact, Lukwago is on record saying he would not meet the President, after reports came up claiming he had agreed to go into talks with the country’s first citizen.

Rescue

Following support he has received from the powerful Cardinal -in-waiting Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, several NRM Ministers led by the maverick Gen Severino Kahinda Otafiire and NRM MPs, Lukwago has since turned indifferent to government’s call for him to soften.

In fact, Lukwago is talking of forcefully taking over his City Hall Office in line with Justice Yasin Nyanzi’s ruling should government keep blocking him.

Way forward

There is no end in sight of this controversy unless the two real principals; the President and the Lord Mayor find it within their hearts to forgive each other. Not courts of law, but a political solution will help save the situation. But the two warring factions must be ready to give and take.

We should remember the adage that when two elephants fight, it’s the grass that suffers, which grass in this case, are the Kampalans who expect services from both government and the Lord Mayor not endless tear gas and a chaotic city.
