{UAH} KING HEROD AND ST. JOSEPH:
It seems as if those in worldly power rule the day. King Herod tyrannically ruled his territory, making sure he was always the most powerful. Any apparent threat to his power was quickly squashed. He even had his own three sons executed having accused them of conspiracy against his rule. His action prompted Ceasar to utter these words; "I would prefer to be Herod's dog than to be his son." Herod represents all who assert themselves over and against others. He seeks the death of the other. When he heard about the birth of Jesus the new king of Israel, he unsuccessfully sought to destroy him and several innocent children lost their lives in the process. On the other hand, Joseph represents those who support the other and do not see him as a threat. His life was conditioned to doing God's will. What matters is obeying that what makes the family holy. When one bases one's self in God, other people are not threats but brothers and sisters - That is what made St. Joseph the patriarch of the holy Family. Christianity will always be foolish to those who aspire to power.Paul Mugerwa
