Businessman Sues Chinese Investors for supplying him with Bottled Water that had been banned by UNBS after being found unfit for Human Consumption
By Stephen K Muwambi
Two Chinese investors are in trouble for supplying a businessman with water contaminated with faeces even after the standards watchdog had banned the product.
The two Chinese on the spot are Fang Zhao Fang and Xu Rongfei, the owners of the suspended ECO Fresh Beverages, the manufacturers of ECO Fresh Mineral Water.
Businessman Bright Muhumuza accuses the Chinese of conning him of a total of Shs161m after supplying him bottled water that the Uganda National Bureau of Standards had declared unfit for human consumption.
In a lawsuit filed by Ochieng, Harimwomugasho and Company Advocates, Muhumuza said he had been a distributor for the Chinese bottled water in the Western part of the country for years, till UNBS declared their water unfit for human consumption on July 7, 2013.
"Despite the ban, the Chinese kept supplying me with the water. I also kept depositing money on their bank accounts in DFCU bank till they told me to pay them through their mobile money lines," Muhumuza pins the investors.
The businessman would later get the shock of his life when retailers he had supplied water returned it and demanded refund of the money they deposited with him, saying UNBS had banned the water for some time but he had kept it a secret from them .
This is when Muhumuza contacted the Chinese for refund, but they kept dodging him, reason he has resorted to court for redress.
